The heavens declare the glory of God;
the skies proclaim the work of his hands.
Day after day they pour forth speech;
night after night they reveal knowledge.
They have no speech, they use no words;
no sound is heard from them.
Yet their voice goes out into all the earth,
their words to the ends of the world. (Psalm 19)
David knew the power of authority… he was a king.
David knew the power of words… he was a songwriter.
But maybe more importantly He knew the power
and a starlit night… he was a shepherd after all.
David saw in those watchful nights what we sometimes forget:
God’s magnificence is complete.
It fills the earth all around us and still echoes the power of the Word
that spoke it into being.
I want to be like that. I want my life to “declare the glory of the Lord” without speech or words or sound.
Day after day, night after night, in season and out, to the ends of the earth, I want my silent acts of love to be more powerful than any word I ever have to say.
After all, Jesus is the only Word that matters anyway.
Lord, make me and my little life a quiet WHAM! showing your love for a world… that needs to see.
