Story Time

Watering:

Let the redeemed of the Lord tell their story—
those he redeemed from the hand of the foe,
those he gathered from the lands,
from east and west, from north and south.

Psalm 107

Watching:

Let the redeemed of the Lord tell their story…

Simple and direct:

Stories are meant to be told.

Our story is important.

Wondering:

I love this psalm. It goes on to give examples of Life stories of regular people. Me. You. People whose timelines intersected with Jesus and were changed forever. No finger pointing stories. No fire and brimstone. No “holier than thou” garbage. Just simple life tales of a loving Father swooping into His arms his children, and giving them a new story.  Giving everything of Himself to save bolting, wandering, questioning ones … like me.

Some wandered in desert wastelands…”

“Some sat in darkness, in utter darkness prisoners suffering in iron chains…”

“Some became fools through their rebellious ways and suffered affliction because of their iniquities…”

“Some saw the Lord’s wonderful deeds … and mounted up to the heaven, only to later find themselves down to the depths…”

As I read this psalm, I see myself in every example and every turn of my running away.

and I am compelled to add my own stanza:

“Some stepped boldly onto paths that crumbled beneath their feet. Flattened. Laid out. They shook their fists at God and cried out bitterly in anguish and fear. Holding defiantly – desperately- to the last thread of a false God they had fashioned for themselves, they screamed in their raging tantrum… until they could wrestle no more.

Then they cried out to Jesus in the black of the night and he heard their cry. Whispering words of hope, He held them tight and wiped their tears.

And taking their hand, he led them out of the darkness.

… He led them home.”

Let the redeemed of the Lord tell their story—
those he redeemed from the hand of the foe,
those he gathered from the lands,
from east and west, from north and south.

What’s your story?

Waiting:

Jesus, I love the way you write.
